[English]
Objective: This study examines the relationship between health literacy and health-promoting behaviors among female employees in public libraries in Khuzestan.
Method: This is a cross-sectional study conducted in 2024 using a survey method. The statistical population consisted of 120 female employees in public libraries in Khuzestan, selected through stratified random sampling, and questionnaires were randomly distributed among them. Ultimately, 86 questionnaires were analyzed. The data collection tools were health literacy and health-promoting behavior questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 24 and descriptive statistics and multiple regression tests.
Findings: The results indicated that there is a significant relationship between health literacy and health-promoting behaviors (nutrition, exercise, responsibility, and interpersonal support), but no significant relationship was found between health literacy and the components of self-actualization and stress management. Regression analysis showed that 57% of the changes in health-promoting behaviors were explained by health literacy (R² = 0.57, F = 82.20, P < 0.01).
Conclusion: Women with higher health literacy make better decisions regarding their health. Female employees in public libraries, given their professional and family responsibilities, need more awareness in the area of health to effectively care for their physical and mental well-being.
