Introduction: Considering the importance of sexual health literacy among youths, especially students, and the occurrence of health-threatening behaviors due to the spread and pollution of available information, this study endeavored to determine the level of sexual health literacy of students and its relationship with demographic variables.Methods: This applied study was an analytical survey. The sample consisted of 387 students of Bushehr University of Medical Sciences. To collect data, the "Sexual Health Literacy of Iranian Adults" questionnaire was employed within four domains (access, reading and understanding, analysis and evaluation, and application).Results: The average score of sexual health literacy of the students is higher than the average score of the report questionnaire, and among the components of sexual health literacy, "application" has the highest average and the "analysis and evaluation" has the lowest average. Paramedical faculty students had a lower average score than the students of other faculties. The variable score of reading and understanding in unmarried students was significantly lower than married students.Conclusion: According to the results and the importance of sexual health literacy, it seems necessary for managers and policy makers to take appropriate decisions to increase the sexual health literacy skills of different groups, including youths, and take necessary plans, practical solutions, and serious steps.

Introduction: Improving the health literacy of pregnant women facilitates their understanding of health information before, during, and after pregnancy and has a direct impact on the health of the child during the years development. Therefore, due to the importance of health literacy for pregnant women, this study was conducted to determine health literacy of pregnant women referring to health centers in Bushehr.Methods: This study was an analytical-survey research. The population was 306 pregnant women referring to health centers in Bushehr who were selected by randomized clustering. Data were collected using health literacy questionnaire, demographic, medical, and midwifery checklist. Chi-square and Fisher test were used to analyze the data.Results: Findings revealed that 51% of pregnant women had inadequate health literacy, 25% had border health literacy, and 24% had adequate health literacy. According to the results, there was a significant relationship between the women's education (P=0.041)/ job (P=0.005), their husband's education (P=0.034)/ job (P=0.010), the pregnancy frequency (P=0.05), and health literacy. Furthermore, women who had experienced the second pregnancy or more had a higher health literacy compared with primiparous women (=18%).Conclusion: The results showed that majority of the pregnant women referring to health centers had a low health literacy. It could be recommended to educate health literacy skills and empowerment of pregnant mothers in different groups through content materials in simple language and provide oral and visual training to pregnant women.

Introduction: The standard libraries seems to be essential for the use of physicians and students to provide evidence-based and quality services to patients. This study endeavored to determine the proposed areas required for developing and localizing standard hospital libraries based on the texts and views of experts in the field of medical information.Methods: This descriptive study was a survey and based on the literature review, the proposed areas for standardization and then the design of the primary extraction tool. The members of the community consisted of 8 information specialists who had expertise, background, and work experience in medical and hospital libraries. The validity of the instrument was authenticated through Content Validity Index (CVI) and Content Validity Ratio (CVR).Results: Given the findings, 6 areas (mission and goals, management, resources and facilities and services, librarians’ education, education to patients and their families, education of hospital and medical staff), 24 standards, and 89 initial indicators after validating were designed as a primary instrument for standardizing hospital libraries.Conclusion: Hospital libraries in Iran can use standardization proposed in this study, including the indicators such as mission clarity and goals of hospital libraries, appropriate mechanisms for monitoring the organizational structure, appropriateness of the physical space for staffing hospital libraries, and other items addressed in the present study. The use of these standards seems to help improve the provision of evidence-based services by physicians and students to patients and enable them to be successful in diagnosing and treating emerging diseases such as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Introduction: Human resource management in libraries and medical information centers can play an important role in the branding process, which has received less attention so far. This study endeavored to identify the characteristics and role of librarians, as an important pillar of human resources, in branding Iranian medical libraries and information centers.Methods: This applied study employed qualitative content analysis method. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews with a purposeful sample of 14 managers of Iranian libraries and medical information centers.Results: Three major concepts, including cognitive, professional, and communication skills, 8 components and 28 codes related to the role and characteristics of librarians in branding libraries and medical information centers were identified. Conclusion: The managers of libraries and medical information centers should have sufficient sensitivity and planning to attract, select, and trigger librarians towards branding.

Introduction: Virtual education is currently considered an unavoidable necessity. This study endeavored to determine the status of evaluation of virtual courses offered in the field of medical library and information science of medical universities (bachelor’s degree) in the academic year 2021.Methods: This was a descriptive survey research. The population included 221 undergraduates of medical library and information science at Abadan, Isfahan, Bushehr, and Hamedan universities of medical sciences, Iran. Due to the limited number, the complete enumeration method was used. By the end of the second semester of the academic year 2021, the study population had participated in two semesters of virtual classes. Data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire based on the Kirkpatrick model, which includes three levels of reaction, learning, and behavior, and analyzed using Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test.Results: The mean scores of reaction, learning, behavior change, and evaluation of virtual lessons were 40.38 ± 12.08, 16.60 ± 5.70, 20.90 ± 6.40, and 57.80 ± 17.30, respectively. The effectiveness of virtual education courses held among undergraduates in medical library and information science was reported to be weak.Conclusion: Due to the low level of students' satisfaction with the virtual courses, reducing the level of learning, and inappropriate behavioral change, medical library and information science departments should do necessary planning to improve their virtual education programs based on Kirkpatrick model to pave the way for the use of virtual education and gaining satisfaction, learning, and changing learners' behavior.

Introduction: As physicians have not sufficient time for updating their clinical information, medical librarians could play an important role to satisfy their needs. This study aimed to identify the obstacles towards the role-playing of medical librarians in facilitating the scientific communications among physicians and paramedical practitioners based on the viewpoint of medical professionals in Bushehr University of Medical Sciences, Bushehr, Iran.Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews. Interviews were continued until all relevant themes and domains saturated. Sampling was done purposefully. In this study, 10 physicians and paramedical practitioners were chosen to ask the questions.Results: According to the interviews, five barriers were identified entitled attitude, individual, structural, technical, and organizational aspects towards the role-playing of medical librarians in facilitating the scientific communications among physicians and paramedical practitioners. The most important obstacle was a personal obstacle.Conclusion: Using the results of this research and the identified challenges, it is possible to use the structural and organizational reforms as well as changes in attitudinal and behavioral factors to facilitate the scientific communication between physicians and paramedical staff of the Shohada of Persian Gulf Hospital in Bushehr. The results of this study can be used to solve the organizational problems of libraries. Moreover, this research can be used to formulate a plan for personal training of medical librarians.

Introduction: Health literacy is: “ the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions. Functional health literacy is critically important during the typical patient–provider encounter so this research aims to investigate the level of the health literacy of diabetic patients attending health centers in Shiraz (Iran).Methods: In this descriptive survey, 400 diabetic patients attending health centers in Shiraz (Iran) during Mordad and Shahrivar 1391 were selected as a sample study. Health literacy was measured by Normalized Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults. Its reliability was obtained using test-retest correlation (0.99). Data were analyzed using SPSS and Independent t-tests, One Way ANOVA and Pearson correlation at a significant level (pvalue>0.05).Results: The findings show that the level of the health literacy of these diabetic patients is in marginal level. Health literacy was associated by sexuality, education, type of work.Conclusion: Generally, this research showed that the health literacy level is not adequate. This result determines that notice to health literacy and trying to improve it is important. Providing easy and readable educational resources for patients, educational classes for them and so on are some ways to improve health literacy.
